Do you want to know something cool? There is no specific time for spring cleaning! Despite what the name suggests, you can do it in the fall or spring, fall, or both. This is especially recommended if you have children or pets, or have to deal with allergies.
Does spring cleaning sound overwhelming and intimidating? It does not have to! Here are some tips to help you enjoy your deep-cleaning activity:
1. Declutter
One of the best ways to keep your home organized is to declutter. Not only does it help keep your rooms clean, but it also has a psychological effect. When your surroundings are messy, your brain receives a signal that some tasks have not been completed. In fact, there are numerous studies that prove that clutter increases stress and anxiety levels.
There is nothing worse than coming home from work only to inhale dust and see a pile of unsorted laundry mixed with your dirty, sweaty clothes and a messy table.
No matter how busy you get, take some time out to:
- Organize your desks and closet
- Clean your office and throw away useless stationery and paper
- Look through that frightening drawer and throw out the things you don’t need
2. Working Top to Bottom
To stay more organized, a good idea is to begin from the ceiling down. This way, all the dust, dirt, and debris will fall down, and you can clean the room in one go, instead of having to re-dust over and over again. If you have a vacuum with a hose, use it to clean the fans in your house, along with the cobwebs on the ceilings.
Make sure to dust the furniture in your house, along with other things, before using the vacuum to suck dust-up from the floor.
3. Go Green
The idea behind spring cleaning is to ensure that you are not exposed to unnecessary chemicals and toxins. After all, you want to ensure that you and your family are breathing in clean hair that is not harmful.
The best way to do this is to invest in a steam cleaner. This green product can be used to clean a range of things in the house, including kitchen appliances, microwaves, ovens, hard tiles, as well as the space outside your home. Steam cleaners make use of heated water vapors to clean, making them 100% natural and risk-free.
If you do not have a steam cleaner, simply use a mixture of baking soda, white distilled vinegar, and water to clean some of the things in your house. This is affordable, as well as non-toxic.
4. Don’t Forget the Kitchen and Bathroom
The kitchen and bathroom are trouble areas that most of us pay little attention to. To clean your kitchen, simply wipe down the cabinets. Then, sift through the things in your pantry and refrigerator. Check expiry dates and get rid of the things you don’t need. In the case of stainless-steel appliances, use a gentle foam cleaner or a steam cleaner.
When cleaning your bathroom, one of the main steps is to change the shower curtain. Over time, shower curtains tend to deteriorate because of the constant heat exposure. While you are spring cleaning, don’t forget about the drawer in which your cosmetics and makeup lie!
